Meta ’s move into the open societal entanglement , also know as the fediverse , is puzzling . Does the Facebook owner see candid protocol as the future ? Will itembrace the fediverse only to close it down , shift people back to its proprietary political program and decimating startups construction in the quad ? One potential answer can be teased out of a conversation between two Meta employees work on Threads andFlipboardCEO Mike McCue , whosecompany join the fediversewith itssupport of ActivityPub , the communications protocol that powers Mastodon and others .
On McCue ’s “ Flipboard Dot Social”podcast , he spoke to two leaders building the Threads experience , director of product direction Rachel Lambert and software railroad engineer Peter Cottle .
