Rare footage has charm the moment before a huge crocodile began feasting on a new-sprung river horse in Kenya ’s Maasai Mara . The hippo appear to still have its umbilical electric cord bond as the crocodile hold its body in its jaws and thrashed the carcase around .

Frankie Adamson , a wildlife photographer who was play as the resident photographer for the safari operator Governors ' Camp Collection , filmed the incident from the banks of the Mara River .

" It ’s mostly accept that crocodile would not approach or threaten an adult hippo , but I have try that they are opportunists and if it ’s possible they would take a probability to nobble a baby , " Adamson assure Live Science in an e-mail . " It is something I had never seen with my own eyes , however . "

" The crocodile already had the baby hippo contain in its jaws by the clip I come on , and I was jolly sure it was already drained , " she said . " This bring up questions in my nous as to whether the crocodile had vote out it , or whether it had been still - born and the carcase nobble as I later on saw the baby ’s umbilical electric cord still attached . "

Adamson said there were no other hippopotamus in this section of the river . The crocodile was initially still in the water , holding the carcase in its jaw , but it began throwing the cadaver around when it was raise up by catfish . " It start lift the carcass up out of the pee and very violently slash it around , " Adamson added .

Nile crocodiles ( Crocodylus niloticus ) grow up to around 16 invertebrate foot ( 5 metre ) long and are strong-growing and opportunistic apex predators . They generally fertilise on fish but will also target terrestrial mammals like zebras , impalas and buffalo . But adulthippopotamuses(Hippopotamus amphibius ) can grow to 16.5 feet ( 5 one thousand ) long and count up to 9,920 pounds ( 4,500 kilograms ) and could easily drink down a crocodile .
