Rare footage captures the moment an easterly lowland gorilla suckle her baby in the tropic rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC ) .

Filmmakers captured a mother eastern lowland gorilla nursing her infant for the PBS show “Silverback."

The cartridge clip was filmed for the Emmy- and Peabody - winning PBS serial publication " Nature , " with the first instalment of the new season — " Silverback " — following Djenguet as he documents the lives of eastern lowland gorillas ( Gorilla beringei graueri ) , a critically endangered subspecies of eastern gorilla ( Gorilla beringei)found in the easterly part of the DRC .

Djenguet is working with DRC conservationists to accustom a group of gorillas in the Kahuzi - Biega National Park guide by an alpha male person known as Mpungwe .
