On Saturday ( Oct. 14 ) , 2023 , a rareannular solar eclipsewas visible throughout almost all of North , Central and South America , with lucky TV audience in nine states getting treat to a salient " ring of flaming " when the Sun Myung Moon blocked all but the blaze synopsis of the sun . Though the fond eclipse was seeable across the Americas , the path of annularity ( the slant from which the moon appeared to move wholly across the mall ofthe sunlight ) was only seeable in a diagonal wrinkle move from the northwesterly United States down through Central and South America . In Mexico City , photographer Gerardo Vieyra watched the lunar month slip past the sunshine near the Angel of Independence statue .
