A nominate learning of T - Mobile USA by AT&T could render significant benefits to U.S. consumer , according to a senior Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives .

Representative Lamar Smith , a Texas Republican , has encouraged the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice to “ carefully weigh all the evidence , ” including the welfare of the proposed $ 39 billion deal , before deciding on whether to approve it .

Some other members of Congress have urged the two agencies to block the pile “ based on the special information provided in congressional hearings , ” Smith , the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee , write in a letter to the FCC and DOJ .

In July , Senator Herb Kohl , a Wisconsin Democrat and chairwoman of the Senate Judiciary Committee ’s antitrust subcommittee , called on the representation to impede the deal . A week ago , Senator Al Franken , a Minnesota Democrat , alsowrote the agenciesand voice his foeman .

“ This transaction is not in the public involvement , ” Franken wrote . “ If O.K. , it would result in greatly reduced contender , the potential loss of thousand of job , high consumer price , and less excogitation in technology . ”

But Smith touted the potential benefits of the good deal in his letter of the alphabet . The acquisition could allow AT&T to “ well improve the quality and capacity of its broadband web , thereby make jobs and spurring innovation , ” Smith wrote . The deal could also allow AT&T to use spectrum more efficiently , to extend its wandering broadband table service to more parts of the U.S. , and to allow better service to customers , Smith aver .

The two means are reviewing the deal . Congress has no direct conclusion - making confidence over the skill .
