I pose in front of a Mac all day ( like you plausibly do ) , so I bank on notification a lot , especially to communicate with carbon monoxide - workers , friends , and family . The problem I ’ve been having , however , is that the Messages app often fakes me out with phantom unread messages , will me frustrated and confused .
Here ’s what happens : The Messages icon in the Dock shows a red-faced “ 1 ” badge , indicating that there ’s a new substance . But when I open up Messages , there ’s nothing new , and bad , the badge wo n’t go off . So I go back to work for a while , draw out up the Dock , see the badge ( again ) , and cerebrate I have a new message ( again ) . The badge usually goes out when I resume my Mac , but that ’s not something I wish to do all that often .
At first , I witness the way to get free of the badge accidentally . After it popped up again , I circumstantially right - clicked on the app icon in the Dock ( with two fingers on the trackpad , right - dawn or control condition - press a mouse ) , which open up up the start - up option menu . under the New Message option at the top of the menu was a tally of my subject matter with a telling that one was unread . I clack it , and a white conversation appeared that was evidently fox the app into thinking I had an unread message . I blue-pencil it and the badge disappeared .

But then that fix stopped sour . So I had to recur to another fix that is n’t so convenient , but it does work . It involves syncing content with iCloud . HEre ’s what to do :
This performs a content sync with iCloud and it should authorise up the phantom badge . It ’s not really a repair for my trouble – there ’s clearly a glitch in Messages on my Mac that ’s do this — but until an update localisation it , I can at least crystalize the phantom badge and get back to body of work .
