The redesigned MacBook Pro has everything to make a Mac user happy . I call the 14 - column inch MacBook Pro , “ a rightfully satisfying laptop ” and say , “ it can now outwear the jacket of the professional ’s choice without vacillation . ” It ’s perhaps one of the good laptops Apple has made in the past 15 years .

But it ’s been virtually ten months since I wrote that recap , and the sheen has figuratively worn off . While I still have no qualms about recommending the MacBook Pro to user who involve the most from their mac , I ca n’t help but think about what I ’d like Apple to update on the MacBook Pro to make it even better than it is now . Here ’s a list of feature I want to see add up to the next MacBook Pro .

5G connectivity

I ’ve been on the route a plenty recently , and I ’ve been staying at hotel , making my way through airdrome , and finding myself in unfamiliar territorial dominion . One constant that I receive throughout my journey is spotty Wi - Fi . You simply can not count on public Wi - Fi to be available or provide a salutary connexion .

A MacBook Pro with 5 M would provide a connectivity option when the Wi - Fi is n’t reliable . Sure , I could utilize my iPhone 13 Pro Max as a hotspot , but then I ’m tax two battery alternatively of just the laptop ’s . Apple does n’t have to make it part of the stock configurations ; it can be an choice that be extra , like with the iPad .

5 G cellular bars on a Mac menu bar would be a welcomed sight .

A proper FaceTime camera

We’vegone on and onabout Apple ’s FaceTime cameras in its laptop , so I ’m not get going to get into its flaws in great item here . Essentially , its image timbre and lineament pose is not worthy of a pro laptop . What we want to see from a new FaceTime camera is livelihood for 4 K television , safe colour quality , near clarity , better treatment of low - brightness level spot , and Center Stage .

The iPhone ’s front - facing camera is much better , and we ’ve suggested before that Apple should just take that camera and put it in the MacBook Pro . However , the current fineness of the laptop hat may not make this workable , so why not make the hat a little thick ?

Apple ’s means to address the problem is a newContinuity Camerafeature in macOS Ventura and iOS 16 , where you could use an iPhone as a Mac webcam . But Continuity Camera is n’t really a solvent , it ’s a workaround . advance the camera hardware is the material solution – and it could also allow Apple to implement the next lineament on this list .

Continuity Camera is nifty , but it ’s a makeshift solution .

Face ID security and convenience

Touch ID is riotous and function well , and it ’s much better than typing in countersign . But then I pick up my aforementioned iPhone 13 Pro Max , and confront ID does its affair whenever a password is required , and it ’s almost a seamless experience . How great would it be to have the same Face ID experience on the MacBook Pro ?

confront ID does n’t have to supervene upon Touch ID – let ’s have both ! perhaps it ’s overkill , but it could be made available only on the MacBook Pro . Since the newPasskeys security feature in macOS Ventura ’s Safarirequires biometric authentication , maybe you could have the choice to make some Passkeys aerate via Face ID only , and others via Touch ID only – mix it up a small to keep cyber-terrorist guess .

An even larger trackpad

There ’s nothing really wrong with Apple ’s laptop trackpads . They feel slap-up , they ’re reliable , and they ’re durable . Okay , there is one thing wrong with it on the MacBook Pro : it could be big .

A larger trackpad would make it easier to practice when the exhibit is set to higher resolutions , or when you need to do on - screen maneuvering that ’s a little more complex than usual , such as drag and drops in a media editing app , using an app ’s pick peter , and more . There ’s enough elbow room on the side of meat of the trackpad to enlarge it without infringing on the space where your wrist rest for type . It does n’t have to be a dramatic increase — even a quarter of an inch aggregate would make a big divergence in usability .

Apple could do something like to Dell ’s XPS 13 Plus , which does n’t have a seeable trackpad below the silver screen — imagine if like 80 percent of the area below the keyboard was a multitouch Earth’s surface ?

The Touch Bar can be made into a pro user ’s tool .

The return of the Touch Bar

I ’ve said before thatI am not a fan of the Touch Bar , but a lot of Macworld readers permit me have a go at it that they are . That could just be a very loud vocal nonage , but there are Touch Bar fans out there , and despite my dislike for it , I do empathise how it can be useful .

So why not make a 14- and 16 - inch MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar ? hug it ( to a sure extent ) and make it part of the Pro lineup , not just a isolated feature that ’s on the out-of-date 13 - inch MacBook Pro . Give the exploiter the choice between Function key or , for an extra fee , a Touch Bar .

The Touch Bar is very helpful when it provides autofill option and predictive schoolbook , similar to what you find when typing on the iPhone . There ’s also a feature film that the Touch Bar does that I care the 14- and 16 - column inch MacBook Pros could do in a similar direction : the Touch Bar points to the Touch ID release when Touch ID is being call for by an app or macOS . And while we ’re on the subject : It would be cool if Apple could figure out a mode to make the area around the Touch ID clitoris lightness up , too .
