While digging to determine an ancient village in southern Sweden , archeologist made a all unexpected discovery : an enormousViking Agecemetery with more than 100 graves and several ship - shaped hill .

The necropolis was initially found in 2017 in the village of Tvååker , in southwest Sweden , ahead of planned road twist . Although Tvååker is mentioned in historical sagas , the aboveground remains of this particular cemetery were lost to time until recently .

One inhumation was in particular well appoint , according to Nordin . " In the grave were 17 vessels , human and animal bones , as well as woven weights and iron arrowheads , " she say .
